Anti-Plagiarism Policy

Educiencia does not tolerate plagiarism. Therefore, all submitted manuscripts will be screened using iThenticate, a professional plagiarism and similarity detection tool. Manuscripts submitted to the journal must not exceed 20% similarity. Any manuscript exceeding this threshold will not be considered for publication.

Procedure for the detection of similarity or possible plagiarism

To ensure academic integrity and the originality of published works, all manuscripts received by the journal will undergo a similarity review using specialized text-matching detection tools before entering the peer-review process.

When a similarity percentage exceeds the threshold established by the journal, or when there are indications of plagiarism, self-plagiarism, redundant publication, or improper use of sources, the Editorial Committee will conduct a qualitative review of the generated report to determine the nature, origin, and severity of the detected similarities.

Matches resulting from bibliographic references, properly attributed quotations, technical terminology, or standardized methodologies will not be considered ethical violations, and the manuscript may continue through the editorial process.

If minor citation, attribution, or referencing issues are identified, the authors will be notified and asked to make the necessary corrections before the manuscript proceeds to academic evaluation.

When there is evidence of plagiarism, substantial self-plagiarism, duplicate publication, or misappropriation of content, the editorial process will be temporarily suspended and the authors will be asked to provide clarifications.

After reviewing the explanations and evidence submitted by the authors, the Editorial Committee may:

  • Authorize the continuation of the editorial process
  • Request additional corrections before proceeding with the evaluation
  • Reject the manuscript for failing to comply with the principles of academic integrity and publication ethics

If plagiarism or another form of editorial misconduct is detected after publication, the journal will initiate an editorial investigation and may issue a correction, an expression of concern, or a retraction, in accordance with the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

All decisions related to potential plagiarism cases will be documented by the Editorial Committee and resolved according to the principles of confidentiality, impartiality, and due process.

Workflow for handling similarity and possible plagiarism cases:

  1. Receipt of the manuscript
  2. Similarity review using Turnitin
  3. Qualitative analysis of the report by the Editorial Committee
  4. Determination of the outcome:
    1. If the similarity is acceptable, the manuscript proceeds to the evaluation process
    2. If there are minor citation or attribution deficiencies, corrections are requested from the author
    3. If possible plagiarism, self-plagiarism, or duplicate publication is detected, the process is temporarily suspended and clarifications are requested
  5. Review of the clarifications and evidence provided by the authors
  6. Editorial Committee decision:
    1. Continue with the editorial process
    2. Request additional corrections
    3. Reject the manuscript
  7. If the irregularity is detected after publication:
    1. Issue a correction
    2. Issue an expression of concern
    3. Retract the article, as appropriate.
