Policy on the use of artificial intelligence
The use of generative artificial intelligence (AI) tools for the development of content in any section of the manuscript must be declared in the document, in the Materials and Methods section, indicating the program used and the form, extent, and scope of its use.
It is the responsibility of the author(s) to verify the validity and accuracy of the information generated by the generative AI used, ensure the absence of bias, and provide proper intellectual authorship credits for the published knowledge (regarding the sources consulted by the AI).
The following actions are not permitted regarding the use of AI in submitted manuscripts:
- Assuming authorship or co-authorship of the work by AI.
- Design or modification of images included in the document.
If the undeclared use of generative AI is detected in the manuscript's writing (without proper acknowledgment and without a declaration of its use) or in images, tables, graphs, or any other element or section, the document will be rejected.
Editorial Responsibility
1. The Journal’s editorial team commits to receiving and validating declarations regarding the use of AI tools in the content of submitted manuscripts. Failure to provide such declarations may result in the rejection of submissions, as the Journal seeks to ensure that contributions genuinely advance scientific knowledge.
2. If the preliminary review of a submission—using Turnitin’s iThenticate software—indicates AI usage exceeding 20%, the manuscript will be returned to the authors so they may verify and address the issues highlighted in the report. Percentages below this 20% threshold will not be grounds for rejection, as they are more likely to represent false positives.
3. At any stage of the process—prior to acceptance for peer review or final publication—the Journal’s editorial team may request clarifications from the authors regarding the content of the submission.
4. The Journal’s editorial team verifies that submissions comply with the aforementioned criteria; failure to meet these standards may result in rejection.
For the Reader
1. The Journal checks that content generated by AI tools does not infringe upon copyright.
2. Based on author declarations, the Journal verifies that the AI tools used to create published contributions comply with relevant licensing and authorship disclosure policies.
3. The Journal employs citation-checking tools to review all submitted manuscripts and promptly informs authors of the results, ensuring that any potential instances of plagiarism are addressed and clarified.
Educiencia's policy on the use of generative artificial intelligence adheres to the ethical principles and recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). Therefore, authors submitting material must ensure the integrity and transparency of their scientific production.
