Fifteen years ago, the Universidad Autónoma de Tamaulipas implemented a System of Distance Education Units (UNAED), located in remote places away from the university ́s campuses to offer, with a relative success, academic programs such as Professional Associate ́s and Masters Degrees. In 2015 as a result of a reform in the university ́s management system, these units became Permanent Education facilities (UNAEP), to meet the specific demands throughout the state. The paper explains the transition from distance education to permanent education, from a theoretical view that justifies such innovation. The study in cludes some observations of the context, it explores the dimension of change and ends with a final reflection to provide guidance for further recommendations.Downloads
