Abstract

The digital transformation of society motivates an academic review regarding the use of personal data through artificial intelligence applications. The construction of the document is based on the PRISMA systematic review from the Web of Science; the objective was to analyze the evolution in the use of personal data in computer systems and artificial intelligence applications, integrating technical advances, as well as ethical and regulatory implications, through a qualitative and bibliometric approach to the scientific literature. The analysis examines the evolution of the automated processing of personal information from scientific-academic communication, identifying trends and providing elements for its understanding. Longitudinal analyses were carried out by decade, as well as a comparison between authors, methodological approaches, and types of data used in the reviewed studies. Likewise, a critical reflection is included aimed at relating the scientific findings to the ethical and regulatory challenges related to the handling of personal data. The results show that artificial intelligence does not introduce the use of personal information as a new phenomenon, but it does increase its scale, inferential capacity, and social reach, which reinforces the need to strengthen governance and information protection mechanisms within current computational systems.
